WASH toilet project in Pakistan
Sohail Shahid, a local partner in Faisalabad, requested a WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Health) project for women working at a brick kiln.
Pakistan is a traditional and conservative society. Many homes in remote areas do not have bathrooms or running water. Women from rural villages are not allowed to move freely outside their homes during the day, except to fetch water. So the women perform their bodily functions in the fields early in the morning before the sun rises and late at night after the sun sets. There was no safe and private place for women to use a toilet. They feel ashamed to be seen relieving themselves in the bushes during the day. Because of this, women suffer from urinary infections and skin problems. Children are also often sick.
Funds for this project were raised from overseas. Care Channels was able to build safe toilets, teach simple hygiene habits to the villagers, and help women live with dignity and better health.
